Sample Water Camp Programme

This is a sample programme and may be adjusted to suit weather conditions and the needs of the group. All activities are delivered with safety, enjoyment, and confidence-building at their core.

Day 1 – Welcome to Camp & Water Safety
Camp begins at Russborough House on the first morning, where campers meet their instructors and fellow participants. From Day 2 onwards, all sessions take place at Russellstown Bay.
The day starts with fun icebreakers to help everyone settle in and feel part of the group. Camp guidelines and safety rules are clearly explained.
Campers then change into wetsuits and take part in a practical water safety session, learning about personal flotation devices (PFDs), wetsuits and drysuits, basic rescue skills, and how weather and planning play an important role in all water activities.

Then its time to spend in/on water with Sit on Top Kayaking

Day 2 – Stand Up Paddleboarding & Big Canoe Fun
In the morning, campers try stand-up paddleboarding in a safe, sheltered area. This individual activity helps build balance, confidence, and independence, with instructors providing close support.
The afternoon brings everyone together in the Big Canoe, which can hold up to 13 campers. This is a fun, team-based activity that encourages cooperation and communication.

Day 3 – Paddleboarding Adventure & Small Canoes
Weather permitting, campers head out on a short paddleboarding trip, practising and developing skills learned earlier in the week.
In the afternoon, smaller canoes (2–3 campers per canoe) are used. Instructors help refine paddling techniques and introduce age-appropriate rescue skills in a supportive environment.

Day 4 – Sailing Day
Campers sail in Laser Pico dinghies, designed especially for beginners and holding two people. Activities include setting up the boat, sailing across the wind, travelling upwind and downwind, and learning how to safely recover the boat after a capsize. All sailing sessions are fully supervised by qualified instructors.

Final Day – Kayaking Adventure & Camp Cook-Out
The final day usually features a sea kayaking trip using single kayaks (with a double kayak available if preferred). Campers paddle from Russellstown Bay to a nearby spot, where they enjoy a supervised camp cook-out before returning. Throughout the trip, campers are encouraged to build independence and teamwork, while instructors oversee all safety and navigation.
