Blessington Greenway

The Blessington Greenway links Russborough House to the historic town of Blessington. Starting at Russborough, you can cycle to Russelltown Bay. Following the signposted Blessington Greenway route, you can weave your way along the magical woodland paths followed by spectacular scenes along shores of the Blessington Lake with the Wicklow mountains as a backdrop. You will cycle through the Burgage Moyle area, take in the Poulaphouca Wildlife Sanctuary, along with sites of historical and cultural significance along the way.

Don’t be afraid to explore alternative routes along the way (Its hard to get lost really). Some of the alternative paths will bring you to the water edge. This route is perfect for children. There is a small part where the route crosses the R758 Valleymount Road (about 2km up from Russeltown Bay), Other than this, the route takes you away from the hustle and bustle of life. Don’t forget to bring a picnic and a camera to retain some memories and of course don’t forget to have fun and enjoy your outdoor adventures.

Grade:  Easy
Distance: 6.5 kms (Return cycle 13km)
Terrain underfoot: Forest roads, boardwalk and tarmacadam footpath

Watch this space - The plan is to extend the current Blessington Greenway to a 40km trail around the Blessington Lake.
